HYPE Market Intelligence — Week of August 31–September 6, 2026

Revised Sep 14, 2026: every figure re-verified against primary sources (Hyperliquid API, DefiLlama).

This is the market-side read of the week: price structure, the unlock-absorption ledger, fee arithmetic on verified inputs, and the levels that separate one regime from the next. Every input is API-verified unless attributed inline; every arithmetic line is labeled as arithmetic, not forecast. The setup: HYPE closed $87.94, +9.9%, at a fresh $89.60 all-time high — the third record in three weeks, printed on a day a 9.92M-HYPE unlock hit the tape.

1. The price ladder

LevelPriceStatus
All-time high (intraday)$89.60Sep 6 — third record in three weeks ($83.46, $86.73, $89.60)
Weekly close$87.94+9.9%; just below the round $90 that anchors trader levels (ETHNews)
The $88 run$87.49–88.20Thu Sep 3: +6.8% day, high $88.20 — first test of the zone
Prior record$86.73Aug 27; reclaimed mid-week
Weekly low$79.52Monday — a 2.2% dip below the prior close, bought same-day
Breakout origin$57.02Aug 17 — the month's trend is +54% above it

Read as structure: a Monday dip below $80 was the only discount the market offered all week, and it lasted hours. From there, a three-step advance — $84.17, the $88 run, the $89.60 record — with each step landing in a heavier scheduled-supply week than the last. The market is in full price discovery: no historical resistance overhead, $90/$100 as round-number anchors.

2. The unlock-absorption ledger

ReleaseSizeMarket contextCandle outcome
Aug 2914.18M HYPE (~$1.2B) — largest since launch (AInvest)Post-breakout consolidation, record weekDay −4.4% before, +3.0% on unlock day; week −2.9%
Sep 69.92M HYPE (~$820M) (MoneyCheck)Advancing tape, third record in reach+2.9% on unlock day to the ATH; week +9.9%
Sep 29 (scheduled)~14.18M HYPE (AInvest)——

Two absorptions inside nine days — roughly $2B of scheduled supply — against a documented bid: a 29.3M-HYPE treasury vehicle, a staking ETF, 13F-disclosed ETF exposure across thirty firms (~$75M, ETHNews), and a standing buyback that converts nearly all protocol revenue into HYPE purchases (48.45M burned to date, 4.84% of max supply — MoneyCheck). The pattern upgrade this week: absorption did not require a flat tape. The second unlock was absorbed while price made highs.

3. Fee arithmetic — the divergence, quantified

Input (source)ValueArithmetic
Weekly fees (DefiLlama)$16.5M−22.2% WoW; −33% from the $24.6M spike
Annualized run-rate~$0.86B/yr$16.5M × 52
Buyback capacity (7d, est.)~$16.3M~99% of revenue to AF (third-party estimate) × fees
AQAv2 stream (est.)~$527K/day ≈ $3.7M/wkExternal estimate (McKenna via ETHNews); official first payment Oct 3
Blended weekly bid (est.)~$20.0M/wk$16.3M fee-funded + $3.7M yield-funded — capacity, not executed
TVL (DefiLlama)$6.41B−0.3% WoW — the plateau holds through the record

Two honest readings. The bull reading: even on a decaying fee line, the standing buyback bid (~$16.3M/wk capacity) plus the ramping yield stream (~$3.7M/wk, modeled) is a mechanical bid that did not exist in this form a month ago — and it met ~$2B of unlock supply without breaking. The bear reading: the fee series has fallen three straight weeks while price rose 6.8% above the post-spike close — flows lead stocks in fades, and the flow is pointing down. Both readings agree on the referee: the next two fee prints.

Note on market cap: a historical circulating-supply series is not publicly available, so a same-week price-to-revenue multiple cannot be honestly computed. At the current snapshot (re-verified Sep 14) the ratio is ~26x on trailing inputs — see the Sep 7–13 Market Intelligence.

4. Relative strength, same-source

AssetWeek of Aug 31–Sep 6From the Aug 17 base
HYPE+9.9%$57.10 → $87.94 (+54.0% in three weeks)
ETH+4.0%$1,876 → $2,515 (+34.1%)
BTC+3.4%$62,873 → $80,314 (+27.7%)

The same API, the same windows. This week HYPE ran at ~3x the market's pace; over the full three-week stretch since the breakout, the excess over ETH is ~20 points and over BTC ~26 points. The pattern across all three weeks is consistent: HYPE outperforms when the Hyperliquid-specific news flow is live (the Aug 19 comments, the unlock absorptions, the on-shore reports) and merely keeps pace with ETH when it is not.

5. What would change the regime

  • The $90 level: the record sits at $89.60. Acceptance above the round number opens uncharted discovery; rejection makes a triple-top ($83.46 / $86.73 / $89.60).
  • A fourth fee decline: below ~$14M hands the price-fee divergence to the bears; stabilization above ~$16M confirms re-basing.
  • Oct 3: the first AQAv2 payment — the largest modeled number in the thesis becomes a measurement.
  • Sep 29: the month's third and largest unlock (~14.18M HYPE) — two absorptions is a pattern candidate; three is a regime description.

No price targets here — the levels above are descriptions of the map, not predictions of the route.

6. The week, day by day

The absorption ledger above reads in weeks; the record itself was made in sessions.

DayCloseDay ΔIntraday rangeProtocol fees
Mon Aug 31$84.17+5.2%$79.52–$85.40$2.49M
Tue Sep 1$82.74−1.7%$80.56–$84.60$2.63M
Wed Sep 2$81.90−1.0%$80.16–$83.70$2.21M
Thu Sep 3$87.49+6.8%$81.06–$88.20$3.47M
Fri Sep 4$84.45−3.5%$83.39–$87.88$2.92M
Sat Sep 5$85.43+1.2%$83.67–$86.17$1.09M
Sun Sep 6$87.94+2.9%$84.50–$89.60$1.65M

For the regime read: Monday's +5.2% off the $79.99 base was the week's launch, and the $88 zone was first attacked Thursday (intraday $88.20, fee peak $3.47M — the only session above $3M). Friday's −3.5% tested whether the breakout would hold; it did, on a shrinking tape. The record, $89.60 intraday, printed Sunday — the same session the second unlock (9.92M HYPE, ~$820M) cleared — and closed +2.9% at $87.94. A market absorbing supply into price discovery on the thinnest fee tape in a month is the single most regime-relevant fact of the week. Daily fees sum to $16.5M, matching the weekly print.

Frequently asked questions

How does a record print on falling fees?

Because the two series measure different things. Fees measure realized churn — which is normalizing off a squeeze spike; price measures the market's re-rating of the machine — unlock absorption, the buyback ledger, the AQAv2 activation, the on-shore path. The candles show positioning-led discovery (the record came on a $1.65M weekend fee day), not churn-led euphoria.

What is the standing bid, precisely?

On third-party estimates, ~99% of protocol revenue routes to the Assistance Fund's buyback-burn — ~$16.3M of weekly capacity at current fees — with the AQAv2 yield stream (~$3.7M/wk on external estimates) layering on from Oct 3. Both are capacity figures; the AF's executed purchases have no clean weekly API.

Is two unlock absorptions statistically meaningful?

It upgrades the story from anecdote to pattern-candidate, no more. Two events in nine days against three historical reactions (−14.1%, flat, −7%) is a small sample — but the two new observations both landed in heavier supply and stronger tape than the old ones, which is the direction that matters.

What was the single most important number of the week?

$89.60 — not because records are rare this month (they are weekly), but because it printed on unlock day. Price making highs while 1% of max supply hits the tape is the cleanest demand statement the market has made all year.

Is this financial advice?

No. This is data analysis for informational purposes. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold HYPE or any other asset.
