HYPE Market Intelligence — Week of August 24–30, 2026

Revised Sep 14, 2026: every figure re-verified against primary sources (Hyperliquid API, DefiLlama).

This is the market-side read of the week: price structure, fee arithmetic on verified inputs, and the levels that separate one regime from the next. Every input is API-verified unless attributed inline; every arithmetic line is labeled as arithmetic, not forecast. The setup: HYPE closed $79.99, −2.9%, after printing a fresh all-time high at $86.73 and absorbing the largest scheduled unlock in the protocol's history — 14.18M HYPE, ~$1.2B.

1. The price ladder

LevelPriceStatus
All-time high (intraday)$86.73Aug 27 candle; news prints $86.71 (AInvest, CoinCentral). Second record in seven days
Prior record$83.46Aug 23; held for four days before being replaced
Unlock-day close$83.38Aug 29, +3.0% — the absorption print
Weekly close$79.99−2.9%; below the prior weekly close ($82.37) for the first time since the breakout
Weekly low$76.59Monday — the level that defined the week's risk
Breakout origin$57.02Aug 17 low — the month's trend is still +40% above it

Read as structure: a consolidation week with a higher high ($86.73 vs $83.46) and a lower close ($79.99 vs $82.37). The market made its record on Wednesday, de-risked into Friday's −4.4%, absorbed the Saturday unlock at +3.0%, and faded into Sunday. A higher high with a lower close is a warning about momentum — but it arrived in the single hardest supply week on the calendar, which softens the signal considerably.

2. The unlock ledger, stated carefully

Documented bid29.3M HYPE treasury · staking ETF · ~$21.0M/wk buyback capacityCoinMarketCap / CoinCentral; capacity derived from ~99%-of-revenue estimate
Next releaseSep 6: 9.92M HYPE (~$820M)MoneyCheck — the second test inside nine days

The honest frame: the market passed the hardest scheduled test of the year on the candle record, and the buyer list — programs, wrappers, and a mechanical buyback — is exactly the kind that absorbs on schedule rather than chasing. What the candles cannot show is where the absorbed tokens settle; holding-period data has no public API.

3. Fee-decay arithmetic on verified inputs

Input (source)ValueArithmetic
Weekly fees (DefiLlama)$21.2M−13.8% from the $24.6M squeeze week
Decay vs baseline2.5x$21.2M vs the $8–9.4M pre-spike baseline
Annualized run-rate~$1.10B/yr$21.2M × 52
Buyback capacity (7d, est.)~$21.0M~99% of revenue to AF (third-party estimate) × fees
AQAv2 streamMechanism live; value unmeasuredActivated Aug 26; first payment Oct 3 (ETHNews)
TVL (DefiLlama)$6.43B, +4.4%Counter-cyclical: monthly high in a −2.9% price week

Two honest readings. The bull reading: fees decayed 14% from a squeeze while price digested 1.4% of max supply — and deposits rose to a monthly high anyway. That combination is what a market with a standing bid looks like. The bear reading: price closed below the prior weekly close for the first time since the breakout, and the fee series is 14% off its peak — decay, not yet decayed-to-baseline. The Sep 6 fee print and the second unlock decide which reading wins.

Note on market cap: a historical circulating-supply series is not publicly available, so a same-week price-to-revenue multiple cannot be honestly computed. At the current snapshot (re-verified Sep 14) the ratio is ~26x on trailing inputs — see the Sep 7–13 Market Intelligence.

4. Relative strength, same-source

AssetWeek of Aug 24–30August to date (Jul 31 close → Aug 30 close)
HYPE−2.9%$52.53 → $79.99 (+52.3%)
BTC−0.2%$63,556 → $77,659 (+22.2%)
ETH−1.9%$1,885 → $2,418 (+28.3%)

The same API, the same windows. This week was the market-line week: HYPE's −2.9% sat between BTC's −0.2% and ETH's −1.9% — no idiosyncratic break, no idiosyncratic bid. The August column is the more important one: with one day left in the month, HYPE's +52.3% leads ETH by ~24 points and BTC by ~30 points, and the month's gains survived the largest unlock on the schedule.

5. What would change the regime

  • Unlock #2 (Sep 6, 9.92M HYPE): two absorptions inside nine days converts the demand story from anecdote to pattern; a failure on the second test would reprice the first.
  • The $86.73 record: acceptance above reopens price discovery toward $90; rejection frames a double-top structure against $83.46.
  • The fee floor: a third week above ~$16M would mark a new baseline; a fall through it closes the spike chapter entirely.
  • TVL at $6.43B: new deposit highs in a flat tape would be the strongest quiet-bull signal the public APIs can print.

No price targets here — the levels above are descriptions of the map, not predictions of the route. The August monthly wrap — the full +52%-and-counting month, the unlock, and the record chain — is in the August Market Report.

6. The week, day by day

The unlock ledger above is weekly arithmetic; this is where in the week the absorption actually happened.

DayCloseDay ΔIntraday rangeProtocol fees
Mon Aug 24$79.01−4.1%$76.59–$82.38$4.22M
Tue Aug 25$79.65+0.8%$78.17–$83.25$4.30M
Wed Aug 26$82.28+3.3%$79.43–$83.73$2.93M
Thu Aug 27$84.64+2.9%$80.50–$86.73$3.56M
Fri Aug 28$80.94−4.4%$78.35–$85.19$3.26M
Sat Aug 29$83.38+3.0%$80.06–$83.56$0.96M
Sun Aug 30$79.99−4.1%$79.02–$84.16$1.99M

Three entries matter for the regime read. The fee peak of the week ($4.30M) was Tuesday — full attention was still being paid before the record high Thursday ($86.73) and the Friday give-back (−4.4%). The unlock session itself, Saturday Aug 29, absorbed 14,175,778 HYPE (~$1.2B at week prices) and closed +3.0% on the week's thinnest tape ($0.96M, weekend rhythm) — absorption on the quietest day of the week, not a liquidation-cascade defense. And Sunday's −4.1% handoff set the $79.99 base that September would build from. Fees summed over the seven days: $21.2M, the weekly print exactly.

Frequently asked questions

Is a higher high with a lower close a bearish structure?

It is a caution flag, not a verdict — and context matters: it arrived in the heaviest scheduled supply week of the protocol's history, against a documented institutional bid, with deposits at a monthly high. The $76.59 low is the line that would turn caution into a call.

How much buyback capacity did this week's fees fund?

On third-party estimates that ~99% of protocol revenue routes to the Assistance Fund: ~$21.0M of weekly capacity. That is capacity, not executed purchases — the AF's ledger has no clean weekly API. The new AQAv2 yield stream activates on top of this; its first payment is Oct 3.

Did the unlock fail because of weak supply pressure?

The candles show absorption, not absence: a −4.4% de-risk the day before, then a +3.0% unlock-day close. Supply showed up; demand met it. The distinction matters for how you read Sep 6.

What was the single most important number of the week?

TVL's +4.4% — counter-cyclical deposit growth into a $1.2B unlock is the cleanest demand signal on a public API. Price can be argued with; deposits into an unlock are harder to argue with.

Is this financial advice?

No. This is data analysis for informational purposes. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold HYPE or any other asset.
